Starting March 1, 2025, passengers on Taiwan-based EVA Airways will no longer be allowed to use or charge power banks and spare lithium batteries during flights.

The airline announced the move as part of its new flight safety decorum, the carrier said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

This safety measure follows alike actions by South Korean airlines and aims to Decrease the risk of battery-related happening.

Smartphones, tablets, ebook readers and noise-cancelling headphones have all become part of the modern traveller’s kit.

This has led to the Derive of ‘power bank’ battery packs as a must-have accessory to keep all that tech juiced up when you’re on the go.

But airlines have become increasingly cautious of these power banks – pointedly, the lithium-ion cells inside them – due to the fire risk posed if they overheat or short-circuit.

These battery packs were banned from checked baggage in 2016, following new rules set down by worldwide aviation safety regulators, and can now travel only in your carry-on cabin bags.

In 2025, airlines are introducing even tougher rules surrounding power banks.
